Whop funding news: a $200M Series D at a $5.1B valuation led by Sequoia and Shopify Ventures. What changed, what you can do on Whop, how to make money on it, and our take.

Whop funding just hit a new level. On October 21, 2026, Whop announced a $200M Series D at a $5.1B valuation, led by Sequoia and Shopify Ventures.

Eight months ago the same company was valued at $1.6B. Below is what was announced, what you can actually do on Whop today, the ways people make money on it, and our take on what this means for partners.

What Whop Announced

Whop co-founder and CEO Steven Schwartz announced the round on X. The headline: $200M in Series D funding at a $5.1B valuation, backed by Sequoia and Shopify.

  • ▶Round: $200M Series D, per Whop's press release and the CEO's post. Bloomberg reported the figure as $205M.
  • ▶Valuation: $5.1B, up from $1.6B in February 2026.
  • ▶Investors: Sequoia and Shopify Ventures. Schwartz says Sequoia's Doug Leone joins Whop's board.
  • ▶Use of funds: global expansion, with the CEO naming markets, scale economies and progressive media as the focus.
  • ▶Origin story: Whop started as a way to sell sneaker bots, a market Schwartz puts at about $20,000 a day. His point is that there were 70,000 other niche markets just like it.

Why Sequoia and Shopify Backing Matters

Shopify Ventures is the notable name. Schwartz says he and co-founder Cameron started building on Shopify at 13. Shopify investing in a platform that now runs its own payments, ads and ecommerce stores reads as a bet that Whop grows alongside it rather than against it.

For sellers the practical read is staying power. Two $200M rounds in one year mean Whop has the runway to keep shipping products like Whop Ads, Whop Cards and Whop Wallet, and to push into more countries. We covered the wider pattern in Is Whop Becoming the Shopify of Online Business?

Our Take: Still Early for Whop Partners

Shopiator's founder replied to the announcement on X:

After Amazon, Whop is the platform that seems to have nailed affiliate driven growth and I think this is still early in the game for partners.

Amazon built its lead partly on Amazon Associates, paying outsiders to send it buyers. Whop runs the same idea at two levels: affiliates earn on product sales, and Whop Partners earn a recurring share of Whop's fees on every business they bring. Whop says partners have earned more than $10M so far.

A $5.1B valuation with fresh capital for global expansion means more sellers, more countries and more products for referred businesses to use. If you work with ecom brands, creators or info businesses, the partner side is where the early upside is. It will get more crowded as the platform grows.

Sell, take payments or refer businesses from one account.
