Slash vs Shopify Payments for EcommerceThe Third-Party Fee, Fund Flow, and What Fits a Shopify Store
By Santosh Kumar, Founder of Shopiator

Slash now processes cards with Whop. How it compares with Shopify Payments for ecommerce brands, including Shopify's third-party gateway fee.
Slash now processes card payments with Whop behind it, and the obvious question from a Shopify store owner is whether it can take the place of Shopify Payments. The answer depends on a rule most comparisons skip: Shopify charges an extra transaction fee when a store uses a payment provider other than Shopify Payments. This is how the two compare on fees, fund flow, checkout fit, and disputes, using Shopify's published pricing and Slash's own pages.
The Shopify Rule That Decides This
Shopify's pricing page lists a third-party transaction fee for every plan: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, and 0.2% on Plus. It applies when you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, and its help page says orders processed through Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Shop Pay Installments, and PayPal Express do not carry it. On a Basic plan, that means any gateway you plug in starts 2 points behind before its own rate. That is why a processor needs a much lower rate to make sense on Shopify, and why Slash's invoice and SDK model is a poor match for a standard Shopify checkout.
Side by Side
| Question | Slash payment processing | Shopify Payments |
|---|---|---|
| Checkout fit | Card payments on invoices and a developer SDK | Native to Shopify checkout, with Shop Pay |
| Extra Shopify fee | Would apply if connected as a third-party provider (2% to 0.2% by plan) | None on orders processed through Shopify Payments |
| Rate | Slash unpublished; Whop base 2.7% plus $0.30 domestic | Plan and country specific, listed on Shopify's pricing page |
| Where funds land | Your Slash business account | Paid out to your bank account |
| Cards, banking, spend | Same account as Slash corporate cards, cashback, treasury | Separate banking and card providers |
| Disputes | Whop lists a $15 dispute fee; confirm through Slash | Handled in Shopify admin |

Where Slash Could Still Help a Shopify Brand
- ▶Invoiced orders: wholesale, B2B, and custom orders that never touch your Shopify checkout.
- ▶Cash flow: if payments land in the account that funds your ad spend cards, you avoid waiting on a payout and moving money.
- ▶A second storefront: a landing page or pre-order flow built with the SDK, kept separate from your Shopify store.
- ▶Spend side: Slash's corporate cards and cashback are a separate decision from processing, and can sit next to Shopify Payments.
What to Verify Before You Move Anything
- ▶Whether Slash supports a Shopify checkout connection, and which Shopify fee applies if it does.
- ▶Slash's rate in writing for domestic, international, and converted payments.
- ▶Chargeback handling, payout timing, and any reserve.
- ▶Whether your products are approved, since Slash says the service is for approved merchants, initially in ecommerce, telehealth, software, and agencies.

Does Shopify charge extra for third-party payment gateways?
Yes. Shopify's pricing page lists a third-party transaction fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, and 0.2% on Plus, which applies when you use a provider other than Shopify Payments.
Can I use Slash as my Shopify payment gateway?
Slash has not shown a Shopify checkout integration. It offers card payments on invoices and an SDK for custom checkouts, so confirm with Slash before assuming it works.
Is Slash cheaper than Shopify Payments?
We cannot say. Slash has not published its own card rate, and Whop's base rate underneath is 2.7% plus $0.30. Add Shopify's third-party fee if you connect it to Shopify, then compare on your order mix.
Where do funds go with Slash?
Directly into your Slash business account, according to Slash, instead of a processor balance that pays out to your bank.
