Ad Hooks: 50 to Test on Meta and Google Ads This BFCM

Ad hooks for BFCM 2026: 50 fill-in-the-blank openers for Meta Reels, Facebook feed, YouTube and Demand Gen, grouped by angle, plus how to test them before Black Friday on November 27.

Ad hooks decide BFCM. Everyone is discounting, so the offer alone will not stop the scroll. The first 3 seconds of your video, or the first line of your caption, decide whether anyone sees the offer at all.

Below are 50 ad hooks we wrote for this Black Friday and Cyber Monday, grouped into seven angles. Each one is a fill-in-the-blank template: swap the brackets for your product, your customer and the exact words from your reviews.

They work on Meta Reels and feed, YouTube and Demand Gen. After the list, we cover which angle fits which placement and how to test them before costs peak.

Why ad hooks matter more during BFCM

In BFCM week every brand in the feed is shouting a percentage. Ad costs rise because everyone bids at once, so a hook that loses people in the first second costs more than it would in October. A stronger hook is the cheapest way to make the same budget reach more people who actually watch the offer.

5 seconds

On YouTube skippable in-stream ads, viewers can skip after 5 seconds. Your hook and your brand need to land before that.

Offer-first ad hooks

Lead with the deal when it is genuinely rare. These work best for retargeting and past buyers, who already know the product and only need a reason to buy now.

  • ▶1. The [product] deal we only run once a year starts now
  • ▶2. [X]% off [product] until Monday night, then it's gone
  • ▶3. We've never priced [product] this low. Here's the catch
  • ▶4. The [product] in your cart since [month] is [X]% cheaper today
  • ▶5. Buy one for [person], keep one for yourself
  • ▶6. [Price] for [product]. That's [everyday comparison] a week for a year
  • ▶7. Black Friday math: [bundle] for the price of [single product]
  • ▶8. Skip the doorbusters. This is the one deal worth an alarm

Gift-buyer ad hooks

Half the BFCM audience is not shopping for themselves. Speak to the person holding the gift list, not the end user.

  • ▶9. For the [person] who says they want nothing this year
  • ▶10. Still no idea what to get [person]? Start here
  • ▶11. Under $[X], and nobody will guess it
  • ▶12. Ships by [date], wrapped, and opened first
  • ▶13. One gift that covers three people on your list
  • ▶14. If [person] is into [hobby], your shopping is done
  • ▶15. The gift [person] will still use in [month]
  • ▶16. Gift card or [product]? Here's why [product] wins

Proof and skeptic ad hooks

Cold traffic in November has seen a hundred fake-looking deals. Proof hooks earn trust before the price appears. Only use numbers and quotes that are real and on file.

  • ▶17. We read every 1-star review of [product]. Here's what they say
  • ▶18. [X] people bought [product] last Black Friday. [X]% came back
  • ▶19. Founder here. Ask me anything about [product] before Friday
  • ▶20. Our return rate on [product] is [X]%. Here's why
  • ▶21. Reading our most-liked [product] review out loud
  • ▶22. Sold out twice this year. Restocked for Black Friday
  • ▶23. Same [material or spec] as [premium alternative], a third of the price
  • ▶24. The [product] question our support team gets every day

Problem-first ad hooks

Name the problem in the customer's words, tied to the season: winter, hosting, travel, the new year. These are the strongest cold-traffic hooks for products that fix something.

  • ▶25. If your [problem] gets worse every winter, watch this
  • ▶26. Stop replacing your [cheap alternative] every [season]
  • ▶27. Hosting this year? [Problem] is the first thing guests notice
  • ▶28. You don't need more [category]. You need one that [benefit]
  • ▶29. Fix [problem] before the holiday guests arrive
  • ▶30. The [problem] nobody mentions until [moment]
  • ▶31. Start January without [problem], at Black Friday prices

Demo and visual ad hooks

Built for Reels, Shorts and YouTube, where the first frame does the work with the sound off. Open on the most surprising visual you have.

  • ▶32. No voiceover needed: [product] doing [action] in slow motion
  • ▶33. Before the kettle boils, [product] has already [result]
  • ▶34. Pause on this frame and look at the [detail]
  • ▶35. Drop it, wash it, pack it: [product] after [X] rounds
  • ▶36. Everything in the [bundle] box, laid out flat
  • ▶37. Side by side: [product] and the one you own now
  • ▶38. Listen to that [sound/click/zip]

Deadline and stock ad hooks

Urgency hooks convert best in the final 48 hours, but only when every number is true. A fake countdown can get the ad rejected and burns trust you need for January.

  • ▶39. [X] left in [color]. No restock until [month]
  • ▶40. Early Black Friday pricing ends [day] at midnight
  • ▶41. Last order date for Christmas delivery: [date]
  • ▶42. Price goes back up Tuesday. Here's what [X] buys today
  • ▶43. The bundle we built only for this weekend
  • ▶44. We set aside [X] units for Black Friday. The count is live on site

Cyber Monday and last-chance ad hooks

Cyber Monday is November 30, 2026. Retarget everyone who visited during Black Friday weekend with a second reason to buy, not the same ad again.

  • ▶45. Missed Friday? Cyber Monday is your second shot
  • ▶46. Still in your cart since Friday? Still [X]% off
  • ▶47. Cyber Monday only: [extra] free with every [product]
  • ▶48. Ends tonight: our lowest [product] price of [year]
  • ▶49. Too late to ship? Our e-gift card arrives in a minute
  • ▶50. The deal is over at midnight. The [benefit] isn't

Which ad hooks fit which placement

Ad hooks by placement: which BFCM hook angles fit Meta Reels, Facebook feed, YouTube in-stream and Demand Gen image ads
Chart: Shopiator.
PlacementHow the hook shows upAngles that fit
Meta Reels and StoriesFirst frame and on-screen text, sound often offDemo, problem, gift buyer
Facebook and Instagram feedFirst line of the caption plus the thumbnailOffer, proof, deadline
YouTube in-streamSpoken line and brand in the first 5 secondsProblem, demo, proof
YouTube ShortsFirst frame, vertical, fast cutDemo, gift buyer
Demand Gen image adsHeadline and the top of the imageOffer, gift buyer, deadline

For Google, the same angle can also feed your Search and Shopping copy: a gift-buyer hook becomes a 30-character RSA headline like "Gift for Dads Who Have It All". See our Black Friday Google Ads playbook for the campaign side.

How to test ad hooks before Black Friday

BFCM ad hooks testing calendar 2026: test hooks November 2 to 13, scale winners November 14 to 26, Black Friday November 27, Cyber Monday November 30
Chart: Shopiator. Dates for BFCM 2026.
  1. 1.Pick 4 or 5 angles, not 50 hooks. Choose the angles that match your product and audience, then 2 or 3 hooks per angle.
  2. 2.Change only the hook. Same body, same offer, same landing page. Swap the first 3 to 5 seconds or the first caption line, so the test measures the hook.
  3. 3.Test November 2 to 13. Costs are still near normal and you get two weeks of data before Black Friday.
  4. 4.Judge on hold rate and cost per purchase. On Meta, compare 3-second views over impressions. On YouTube, watch the share of views that pass 5 seconds. Then confirm with cost per purchase, not clicks alone.
  5. 5.Scale the top 3 to 5 from November 14. Put budget behind winners before Black Friday week. Do not launch untested creative on November 27.
  6. 6.Switch to deadline hooks for the final 48 hours and to Cyber Monday hooks from November 29 for retargeting.

Where to get the words for your ad hooks

The brackets are where hooks win or lose. Fill them with your customers' words, not your marketing team's.

  • ▶Reviews: the phrase buyers repeat most is your problem hook. The one surprise they mention is your demo hook.
  • ▶Support tickets: the question asked every day becomes hook 24.
  • ▶Post-purchase surveys: "who did you buy this for?" fills every gift-buyer hook.
  • ▶Comments on past ads: objections in the comments are your proof hooks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ad hook?

An ad hook is the first line, frame or caption of an ad: the part that decides whether someone stops scrolling or skips. On video it is roughly the first 3 seconds. On static and Demand Gen image ads it is the headline and the top of the image.

How many ad hooks should I test for Black Friday?

Test 10 to 15 hooks across 4 or 5 angles in early November, on the same body and offer, so the hook is the only variable. Keep the top 3 to 5 for Black Friday week, when costs rise and there is no time to learn.

Do the same ad hooks work on Meta and Google Ads?

The angle carries over, the format does not. Meta Reels and feed reward a fast visual or a bold caption in the first seconds. On YouTube skippable in-stream ads, viewers can skip after 5 seconds, so the hook and your brand both need to land before then. On Demand Gen image ads the hook becomes the headline.

When should I start testing BFCM ad hooks?

Start in the first week of November. Black Friday 2026 is November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30, and you want 2 to 3 weeks of hook data before ad costs peak.

Can I use urgency hooks like low stock or ends tonight?

Only when they are true. Fake countdowns and invented stock levels can get ads rejected under Meta's and Google's misleading-claims rules, and they train your customers to ignore you. Use real end dates, real shipping cutoffs and real unit counts.

Where do the best ad hooks come from?

From your customers' own words: reviews, support tickets, post-purchase surveys and comments on past ads. Fill the brackets in these templates with those phrases instead of marketing copy.
